Eating Disorders

Eating disorder is frequent during adolescence but are also present in adulthood. The most common are anorexia and bulimia or binge eating. They can take the form of extreme and physically damaging behaviors that may include self-starvation or a cycle of binging and purging to lose or manage weight.

The roots of eating disorders are frequently an extreme sadness or anxiety.The individual is addicted to the pattern and is not able to control his willingness anymore. It’s a sign of profound distress and despair and the behavior can be understood has an indirect way to address family or friends and call for help. Eating or no eating are becoming a way are neutralizing temporarily this despair and are finally managing all the emotions such as in addictive behaviors.

The transference created in the relationship with the therapist will help the patient to explore a new way of being without the food constraints. It will consist of a progressive dismantling of the eating habits by understanding what and to who this behavior is addressed. An intense work on differentiating and expressing emotions will also be created as anorexia and bulimia are constraining those emotions plunging the individual in a total feeling of in differentiation.
